30 Week Bumpdate!

.Week 30.

How far along: 30 weeks!

Baby's size: Size of a Butternut Squash (16-17 inches, 2.75-3 lbs.)

Gender: Boy- Hunter Alton!

Sleep: This week sleep has been awful! I am literally so tired but can't manage to take a nap during the day and am waking up at least 4 times a night. I can't wait till I don't have to sleep on my side anymore. I get massive ear and aches in the middle of the night.

Maternity Clothes: Always..dare I say I miss my regular clothes! UGHHH only 10 more weeks.

Stretch marks: My right side is getting a tad darker this week...I have 3 on each of my sides but a couple days ago I could feel him settle on the right side and sure enough I checked the mirror to see a little more purple.

Movement: Much more now. I found out a couple of weeks ago that I have an anterior placenta which is like an extra layer under your stomach. I was wondering why I don't see the crazy movement from the front like most at this stage but that's why...and I am kinda ok with that.

Food cravings: none.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Ice cream was making me sick last week. I now have a new morning eating regiment too which requires me to eat eggs and toast every morning with my whole Starbucks tumbler of water to wash it down. If I don't get any protein in the mornings I feel majorly sick and like I had just taken a sleeping pill. Not fun.

Labor Signs: No

Symptoms: I am feeling very uncomfortable these days...I'll just leave it at that.

Workouts: nope

Things you miss: Please don't hate me for saying this....Not being pregnant! I literally have no idea how people do this multiple times. I feel like me body hates me and is in protest. Don't get me wrong, I am beyond excited to meet our little guy and be a mom, but this whole pregnancy thing has not been easy for me.

Best moment this week: Honestly it's been a rough week and I am just ready to be on to the next one.

Looking forward to: Our next appt. on Wednesday. We should hopefully get an ultra sound done at this one which is exciting. I also think that we might do another 3d ultra sound..I am debating on that or a maternity shoot. Decisions decisions.

Sorry if this week was a downer! I am trying to be as positive as possible during this time but those who know me, know that this pregnancy has been very hard on me since the beginning. I just can't wait to meet our little Hunter!

Kenzie Ann

24 Week Bumpdate!

.Week 24.

How far along: 24 weeks!

Baby's size: Size of an ear of corn...around 12.5 inches and 1.25 lbs!

Gender: Boy- Hunter Alton!

Sleep: It's getting better! I'm at the point where I definitely cannot sleep without my Snoogle pillow.

Maternity Clothes: Almost always! I have the cutest pair of ripped capris that I got from Motherhood that totally don't look like maternity clothes which is nice ;)

Stretch marks: I have 3 on each side and their getting a tad darker.

Movement: He's getting stronger! I'm able to feel him a lot more now. We did find out from our doctors appointment that I have an anterior placenta which is why I don't feel him as much as most people do at this stage. I was getting a little worried but now it totally makes sense!

Food cravings: none.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope! I just have to keep my tummy semi full always

Labor Signs: No

Symptoms: I have to pee constantly, sciatic pain, and I have been getting very tired easily. Not too bad though.

Workouts: A couple squats here and there.

Things you miss: Having a drink, sushi, regular clothes, not having to recline every time I sit..haha

Best moment this week: Last week we got to see him and he yawned for us! It was pretty precious.

Looking forward to: Finding a house! We are looking right now and I found one that I really like so I'm praying we get it! I want to set his room up!!! I can't take it anymore!

With Love,
Kenzie Ann

22 Week Bumpdate!

.Week 22.

How far along: 22 weeks!

Baby's size: Size of Spaghetti Squash...around 11 inches and 1 lb!

Gender: Boy- Hunter Alton!

Sleep: I've pretty much decided that its just not going to be great from here on out.. I'll live. I bought the snoogle and it has seemed to help a little bit.

Maternity Clothes: I wore a non maternity shirt today to church and it still fit well! I was surprised.

Stretch marks: No more so far.

Movement: Kyle got to feel him this week!! It was so crazy!  I feel him on the inside but he's the only one to feel him on the outside. He is still very low.

Food cravings: none.

Anything making you queasy or sick: I found out what was making me a little sick in the morning this past month...cereal. I can eat it for a night snack but in the morning, forget it.

Labor Signs: No

Symptoms: I have become quite friendly with every bathroom wherever I go. It's just fantastic.

Workouts: I have started to do squats and girly pushups every day! WOOO!

Things you miss: I really can't wait to just be myself again. Pregnancy is such a gift and I am so incredible thankful that God has allowed me this honor, but I won't say it's easy. So yeah it will be nice to finally feel human again haha ;)

Best moment this week: Kyle feeling him move was really cool. Auntie and Uncle bought Hunt a momma roo as well!

Looking forward to: Being able to set up his room. We're living with the in-laws right now but I really can't wait to have a place for all of his things.

Current Wardrobe Staple

My typical summer uniform is a pair of Old Navy chino shorts and a Target tank. Well this summer I had to switch things up since I'm pregnant and all ;) I have been on the hunt for the cheapest and best quality maternity tank tops out there for us Preggos and I have definitely found them! You probably wouldn't believe it but they're in Target's junior department! That's right, the "Mossimo Long and Lean Tanks". I got mine for less $7.00 a piece!
The funny thing is,  I never wore these tank tops before I was pregnant. I always bought the thicker Mossimo tanks because I felt they were better quality and a little nicer looking when wearing on their own. I tried wearing my beloved (yes they're my beloved...I own probably 10) tanks until they just weren't working for me anymore. I went searching and found another post on social media about these tanks. I totally doubted that they would actually fit a growing bump but was out of tops and had to go out to try some on for myself. They always seemed so thin and cheap to me but when layered with another, they're so perfect!
The thing that makes them work so well for maternity is the fact that they really are long and are 95% cotton and 5% spandex. I bought mine in an XL and I am typically a L. They stretch so perfectly around my bump and leave plenty of extra fabric at the bottom. Oh and they have so many colors to choose from!

This is the only picture that I have right now of me in one of the tanks but I'm sure I'll be wearing another one in my next bump date. Hope you found this helpful and if you try these let me know how they worked out for you!!

With Love,
Kenzie Ann

20 Week Bumpdate!

.Week 20.

How far along: 20 weeks! I'm halfway done!!!

Baby's size: Size of banana! 6.5 inches inches, 10 oz.

Gender: Boy- Hunter Alton!

Sleep: Awful. Side sleeping sucks. I think I might cave this week and get a Snoogle pregnancy pillow

Maternity Clothes: I am at the point where I am completely in on maternity. I did find the best non-maternity tanks at target though that are awesome! They are the "Long and Lean" style.

Stretch marks: No new ones to report!

Movement: Definitely feeling him now. This week his kicks and rolls have been a lot stronger than before. Still can't feel or see movement from the outside but I can inside. The best way I can describe it is the feeling when you release a fish back into the water...the ripples from the water is kinda what it's like. Oh and baby boy is definitely LOW, like on my bladder all the time.

Food cravings: None but soda.

Anything making you queasy or sick: I still don't feel 100% everyday but I am doing pretty good with sickness. I don't let myself get too hungry though or I definitely get sick.

Labor Signs: No

Symptoms: I can definitely feel that my ribs have expanded a lot and I find my self trying to recline as much as possible. It's not easy bending over either ;)

Workouts: Well I moved this week so that was enough working out for the week considering I felt like crap after.

Things you miss: This week for my birthday, the restaurant had this awesome mixed drink with a Nerd rimmed glass that I wish I could drink so bad!!
Best moment this week: I have been feeling him a ton more and we had our anatomy scan. The scan went well but I got HORRIBLE pictures. I am glad though that I am finally at the halfway mark. It feels like I've been pregnant forever.

Looking forward to: Fall! haha Summer is not treating me too well. I just want to be cozy.

I think for the next week's bump date, I will try to add different questions in. Man I can't wait to meet my little man! 20 weeks to go!

With Love,
Kenzie Ann

18 Week Bumpdate!

.Week 18.

How far along: 18 weeks!

Baby's size: Size of sweet potato! 5.5 inches inches, 5 oz.

Gender: If you didn't see my gender reveal post then you wouldn't know, but...we're having a BOY!!! We are so so so excited! I am like dying to get this pregnancy over with already so I can snuggle my own squishy little boy! His name is Hunter Robert Alton. Robert is after Kyle's middle name and Hunter was Kyle's favorite name. I told him this pregnancy, if it was a boy, I would let him name him. So Hunter it is!

Sleep: Not so great, I hate side sleeping. I wake up probably 6 times a night when I switch sides and always am waking up with an ear ache from laying on my ear.

Maternity clothes: We went shopping for more at Motherhood this past Friday! Let me just say that I got the cutes freakin capris i've ever owned! Nothing that I got even looked maternity so I was happy ;)

Stretch marks: Same one's on my hips.

Movement: I think I have been feeling him a little bit but its just so hard to tell. Two nights ago, I'm pretty sure I felt him do a roll right behind my belly button. It was the weirdest feeling!

Food cravings: Still soda! I got more flavored sparking waters to satisfy me though.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Ice cream! Holy cow, every time I eat it I feel so sick. I don't know what the heck this little guy is thinking because his dad and I LOVE ice cream.

Labor Signs: No

Symptoms: While I was sick, my stomach shrunk so my appetite is now less than half of what it used to be! Its crazy but I'm sure a good thing because I kinda had a big appetite ;) Still have sciatic back pain and the typical sickness when my stomach gets too empty.

Workouts: Ok, I have come to terms with the fact that I probably won't be working out much this pregnancy. This is not something I wanted or was even expecting but being sick for 4 months really set me back. At this point, it wouldn't be healthy for me to start lifting and doing my normal workouts again. I will try to go on walks though and do some body weight exercises at home.

Things you miss: Laying on my back and stomach while I sleep. We went to the lake yesterday and I will say I was super jealous that I couldn't tube and go on the ski's or boat. Next summer though i'll have a super cute baby and the lake will be calling our name!

Best moment this week: Going to the lake! I finally felt pretty good all day!

Looking forward to: Almost being halfway done! Only 2 more weeks!

Gender Reveal! It's a...

Let me start by saying, I am so glad we ended up having a party! I knew that I would totally regret not having one. The original plan was to pick my mom up from the airport Friday afternoon, then go together to find out what the baby was but Tuesday was when it all changed. We went for my 16 week appointment and my doctor decided to do an ultra sound instead of the doppler. Of coarse we were super excited because that meant maybe she would tell us what our little babe was. She did warn us that the ultra sound machine she brought in was the oldest one they had so it won't look as clear as our other ultrasounds. She put the gel on, then started to check on the babe. It was looking good and was even doing tricks for us...and my tricks, I mean my child was doing a full on headstand! It was too funny. I asked if she could possibly see what the gender was and with much searching she admitted she might have seen but the ultrasound machine much too old and not clear enough for her to be sure.
When she said what it might be though, Kyle and I were super shocked and I was thinking no way that it was possible. We walked out shocked and couldn't handle the though of not knowing any longer. I called Peek-a-Baby right away after that appointment and asked if they had time for a walk-in. Thankfully she said no problem and to come right in. I was so nervous! I didn't think they would be able to find the gender but she reassured me that if they couldn't, I could come back in for another try, free of charge.
When we got there, we went back into the room where there was a large couch and big screen to see the baby on! It was such a nice experience and I am so glad we found out just the two of us. I told her I was nervous that she might not be able to find it, since the doctor wasn't sure. When she put the probe up to my belly, we got the answer we were looking for instantly.

It's a boy! I burst into tears right away with so much shock and happiness. I wanted a boy so badly and I didn't think at all that I would be blessed with a squishy little boy that I had been dreaming of. He is definitely a boy, there was no denying throughout the entire ultrasound.. The tech thought it was hilarious that he wouldn't quit showing us his gender! I had to drink a Sunny D to make him move and show his face! It was like he was saying, "Hello mom and dad! Look I'm a boy so you don't have to question it any longer!"

We were a little freaked out to do the 3D/4D so early, but I think it was actually kinda cool to see!

Right when I got home, I started thinking about a gender reveal party. I texted everyone to see if they would be available last minute and it all worked out! Kyle and I went shopping Wednesday for party decor and food. I made the cake, cake pops, cake topper and garland Thursday night. We picked up my mom from the airport Friday afternoon and arrived back home 1 hour before the party. Talk about close call and last minute but it turned out great!

All of our decor was from Party City and the handmade items were made by me. You can find them in my shop! Withlovekenzieann.etsy.com

We decided to let everyone know by cutting the cake and having the inside reveal what the baby was. I knew before finding out that if we did do a party, that I didn't want to find out with everyone else at the party. I'm totally weird and hate surprises, especially ones that huge. So that's why we decided to find out first and let everyone know this way. It was really fun and still exciting.

This little boy is already so incredibly loved! We went on a clothing shopping spree for him on Saturday at Old Navy and had a blast! I can't wait to be immersed in all things boy for my little man! Kyle and I dreamed of having a little boy first so saying the Lord blessed us, is definitely an understatement. We are just thrilled and I love that I can call myself a boy mom!

16 Week Bumpdate!

.Week 16.

How far along: 16 weeks!

Baby's size: Size of a Avocado! 4.5 inches inches, 3.5 oz.

Gender: We are hoping to find out this week!! I have an appointment Tues. and if they won't tell us then we're just going to go find out at an elective place :)

Sleep: I have been sleeping so light this week. I wake up all the time.

Maternity clothes: My Bumpdate outfit wasn't but my regular shirts are getting tight. Maternity clothes are the best.

Stretch marks: Yep up top if you know what I mean...It's not fun! Sorry if that's tmi but hey you're reading a bump date so I guess it's all out on the table.

Movement: I'm not sure... Sometimes I think I might but maybe it's just gas or like a muscle twitch.

Food cravings: Soda. I have been drinking the flavored carbonated waters though.

Anything making you queasy or sick: No not really...I just don't have a huge appetite.

Labor Signs: No

Symptoms: Back and Boob pain, headaches

Workouts: I managed to get in some squats and pushups this week! ;)

Things you miss: Well this may seem petty but I really miss being able to be in control of my body...Not being able to work out much has really been frustrating because I'm losing so much muscle tone and everything is getting softer lol.

Best moment this week: This week was a little stressful because we moved so I'm not sure we had anything to report except that we are all done moving!

Looking forward to: I have an appointment Tuesday with my doctor and finding out the gender!

How To Survive The First Trimester

* I am going to preface this by saying, please don't let this scare you away from getting pregnant because everybody's pregnancy is different! I just felt like I owe it to the girl who is sitting in misery while her sweet little babe inside is making her sick as a dog! ;) I am here for you girl and you WILL get through!

...

...

When I first thought about writing about the first trimester of pregnancy, I had every intention of making a list and giving my best tips on how to help. Honestly I just can't.

My sickness hit right when I turned 6 weeks. Actually I caught the flu first at 5.5 weeks, then at 6 weeks the "morning sickness" hit me. The fact that it's even called "morning sickness" is so irritating to me! It makes it sound like obviously it only comes in the morning and it's really no big deal. For some, it really is no big deal and is totally manageable. If that's you, count your blessings! Then for others, like me, it's misery.
While I would lay in bed, I would watch videos and read blogs to try and find any magic cure for morning sickness but really there isn't! I would ask my husband every day why I was so sick and why nothing makes me feel better. "Why can she manage to get up and shower and run errands and I'm still sitting here in the same PJ's from 2 days ago?" Poor guy! I must have sounded so pathetic but honestly I really don't know why more women aren't more honest about this whole morning sickness experience! It's tough work and again every pregnancy and woman is different but really, it would just make things a little easier if we just told it like it was...because I was blindsided. Oh and to the woman who has HG, you are my hero...I can't even imagine.

Here is some things I have to say to the first time momma who just needs somebody to sympathize with.

1. JUST SURVIVE!!  That means if eating Taco Bell everyday is the only thing you can manage to get down, then eat it girl! (I ate a bean burrito for lunch everyday for a week.) I felt SO guilty and worried that I was going to gain a ton of weight or increase my risk of miss carriage due to the unhealthy food.  I remember reading things about girls craving big salads and fruit and feeling like such a failure because trying to eat anything other than fast food or junk food would make me feel even more sick. Honestly, I didn't gain any during my first trimester and so far my baby is healthy as can be. Once you start feeling better you will most likely start wanting those healthier choice foods again.

2. Don't Push It.  If you are able to go to work or get out and at the end of the day need to take a nap because you're exhausted and your hormones are going off the wall, DO IT! Take a darn nap ladies! You are not lazy! Growing a baby is hard work! I will say though, you will have to mentally except that your house might look like a mess during this time.

3. Keep A Good Mindset.  Easier said then done but really this is important. I will say that I got depressed during my 9 weeks that I was sick. Now I am not trying to be dramatic but really, it messes with your head being stuck inside for that long! Especially while those crazy hormones are kicking in! I really felt like I didn't know what I had gotten myself into and wondered if getting pregnant again was really the right decision. Lean on God. I had such a hard time trusting God through this. I often felt like I was being punished for getting pregnant again, that's why I must have been so sick. Honestly, don't let the devil take captive your thoughts, once you start feeling sorry for yourself or start blaming God for all of it, is when you really will feel depressed. This baby is a true blessing and miracle that God has given you! Look past all the temporary sickness and mess and look to God.

4. You Will Get Through!  As much as you can't see the light at the end of this, you will get through it. There will be a day that you wake up, and don't feel sick. Mine came at 14 weeks right after a 4 day stomach flu. I really feel like that whole situation was a joke. Like seriously, let's catch the stomach flu at the tale end of when my morning sickness is going away. One day I will laugh about it I'm sure ;)

5. To Woman With Acid Reflux: Oh and NO I do not mean heart burn. It makes the experience that much more enjoyable doesn't it? I was diagnosed with it years before getting pregnant and managed it with taking prescription Nexium to help it. For me, the Acid Reflux caused very severe stomach pains while after I ate. Not heart burn. My stomach would just completely freak out. I couldn't do any but curl up and cry.
Now when I first got sick at 6 weeks, I had a flare up with it after being fine and off meds for about 3 years. It didn't really click that it was my Acid Reflux so I dealt with it for about a week. When I told my OB what was going on and she prescribed me a bunch of different acid reducing medication but it just wasn't working. I knew I needed to take Nexium again but she said it wasn't safe for pregnancy. Well after 2 more weeks of battling it out, I finally called again and asked if she could research it further or talk to a GI to get further information about it because I just wasn't buying that it wasn't safe for pregnancy. I read forums on pregnancy websites about women just like me who were put on it and the baby was just fine. I am happy to say that she did further research and found that it is now considered safe and I am back on it. So if you have a severe case like me, ask your doctor about it!
*I am not a doctor so please don't go out and take it OTC just from reading this. This is just my experience and the medication that my body needs for the severe case of acid reflux that I have.*

Now even at 14 going on 15 weeks, I am still battling some sickness throughout the day but it is nothing like it was. It's much easier to manage now and I am able to get out and run errands.
There were a couple of practical things that helped me manage symptoms in the beginning so I will still list them just in case they might work for you too.

Sucking on Jolly Ranchers or Mints
7 up or Sprite
Pickles
Gatorade
Don't let your stomach get hungry.
Don't force yourself to eat something that doesn't sound good.
Brush your teeth often to get rid of that yucky after taste.

I really hope you feel better soon and just remember you will get through it!!

With Love,
Kenzie Ann

14 Week Bumpdate

.Week 14.

How far along: 14 weeks!

Baby's size: Size of a lemon! 3 inches, 1.5 oz.

Gender: I don't know!! I am seriously dying...I had a weird feeling this morning that maybe it was a boy though. I know it's early but I kinda think maybe I am carrying low? Hopefully we will find out soon though!

Sleep: Not sleeping so great these days. I almost always have to have a blanket supporting my back and a pillow between my legs for my lower back...I think a pregnancy pillow is in the near future. Recommendations???

Maternity clothes: I am living in these jean bermudas from Motherhood. I think I need to take a trip to Old Navy and check out what they have for summer.

Stretch marks: Haven't found any new ones this week.

Movement: No

Food cravings: No. Definitely not.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Well let me just say, EVERYTHING made me sick this week because I of coarse caught the worst flu I have ever had! I seriously didn't eat for 3 days and there was an ER trip involved. I was so dehydrated. It was awful.

Labor Signs: No

Symptoms: The flu and back pain.

Workouts: No yet again...but I'm pretty sure this weeks excuse is a good one.

Things you miss: Getting out.

Best moment this week: We had our genetic scan this week!! Baby Alton looked great and was so active! It was pretty precious!

Looking forward to:  Still looking forward to not feeling sick...today is a pretty good day so I am crossing my fingers. Also, we have our next appt in 2 weeks! Oh and selling our car and getting me a Tahoe!!! I am so freakin excited...I mean hello, football mom status!! haha (If it's a boy that is..)

With Love,
Kenzie Ann

13 Week Bumpdate

.Week 13.

How far along: 13 weeks! HELLO SECOND TRIMESTER!!

Baby's size: A peach... about 3 inches long.

Gender: Still don't know yet...almost everybody is leaning towards girl though.

Sleep: Still getting plenty of it! I will say though, that I am more comfortable nowadays with a pillow or blanket supporting my back.

Maternity clothes: Loving them still... I did wear my normal jeans the other day with the rubber band trick and they worked just fine.

Stretch marks: Yes...I am getting them on my sides/hip area..WOOO ;)

Movement: None.

Food cravings: Soda and still sushi...Its so strange, but I am always wanting a soda lately! I very rarely drank soda before I was pregnant so I am like totally weirded out by this because I NEED it.  I think it's the sweetness and the bubbles, I think I'll try some flavored sparkling waters to see if that satisfies.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Sometimes water..I don't really have a desire to drink any water and have to literally force myself to drink it.

Labor Signs: Nope.

Symptoms: My nausea has gotten SO much better at the week. HALLELUJAH!! I am not 100% yet but I am working towards it! Still having some sciatic back pain and I have developed a rash on my forehead. Its not super noticeable but it's a little strange. I can still cover it with makeup so I am not worried about it.

Workouts: Not yet...Hopefully soon though!

Things you miss: Really just want to feel like myself again without having stomach issues but I am getting through it.

Best moment this week: Getting nausea relief!

Looking forward to: My doctors appointment this Friday. We are having the genetic scan done which makes me a little nervous but I am excited to see out little one again. Prayers would be so appreciated!!
